Christmas is a difficult time of year for a lot of parents, who can’t always afford to buy their kids numerous expensive presents. So to attempt to help out parents a little, here’s a head start on what looks like being the top trends in toys for 2010.
With the whole nation trying to move out of a recession, spending levels have dropped considerably and the top toys are likely to reflect this, with the majority of them retailing under the £50 mark. This will hopefully make life a little easier for parents, as it’s more likely they’ll be able to afford the hottest Christmas gifts of the year.
This years top toys, as with many previous years, are likely to include characters from the most popular film and TV shows in the country, as well as some old favourites.
Beginning with presents for young boys, you should be looking at which television/film characters will be most popular. Toy Story, Shrek and Transformers will all be good bets for boys, with Toy Story 3’s Buzz Lightyear almost certain to be extremely popular. You can probably expect a surge in popularity for toys based around the Transformers films (and games), or any toy that is in a similar vein. Characters from the Shrek films are also likely to be big, with the imminent release of Shrek 4 and huge popularity of the last three films, making any Shrek toys likely to be great Christmas gifts for him or her.
RC Helicopters and cars are also likely to be a good choice for any young guy this Christmas.
As for younger females, popular kids shows like Peppa Pig are likely to be hugely popular, with a fairly wide range of toys on the market. Other brands likely to be big this year include Dora the Explorer, the ever-present Hannah Montana and Bratz, who look like continuing their popularity from last Christmas.
Sylvanian Families have been popular in previous years, and it’s likely that they’ll be a hit with young girls this year as well. If you have a slightly older daughter, you might want to look at something with a bit more to it, like the Kidizoom Camera or the GOGO Hamsters, both of which are growing in popularity and either of which would make good Christmas gifts for her.
